WORLD AIR MAIL DAY 2026 CELEBRATION AT PRAYAGRAJ

On 18 February 2026, philatelists and heritage enthusiasts came together in Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad) to commemorate the 115th anniversary of the world’s first official airmail flight—the historic journey that carried mail from Allahabad to Naini on 18 February 1911. The occasion was marked by a special gathering where Mr. Vaibhav Maini, founder of Chaaya Smriti, addressed members of the Eastern U.P. Chamber of Commerce & Industry. In his remarks, he revisited the fascinating story behind this pioneering flight and reflected on how such milestones continue to shape Prayagraj’s identity as a city rich in history and heritage.

The commemoration featured several meaningful initiatives. The Prayagraj Philatelic Society prepared a commemorative cover, while a special picture postcard was issued by the Department of Posts. Both were used on 18 February 2026 with the Permanent Pictorial Cancellation of Airmail from Prayagraj to mark World Airmail Day. A specially designed commemorative poster, created by Mr. Rahul Ganguli and Mr. Vaibhav Maini, was unveiled and now finds a place in the fine-dining section of El Chico. Adding a festive touch to the occasion was a themed cake featuring the iconic 1911 airmail postmark. A limited-edition commemorative fridge magnet was also released.
